To support refugees and asylum-seekers in the Republic of Moldova in finding livelihood opportunities, on 16 March 2016, the Charity Centre for Refugees organized a round-table on employment aimed to create an open dialog among the employment seekers, employers and relevant local institutions and organizations. Besides beneficiaries of our centre, we had invited representatives from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the National Agency for Employment, employers representatives, as well as representatives from our implementing partners: Law Center of Advocates and Ave Copiii, who all gave presentations on what support beneficiaries can expect from their services in the field of integration on the Moldovan employment market.
The UNHCR representatives opened the round-table by sharing their views on the importance of official employment and invited participants to actively use the opportunity to discuss their obstacles in finding appropriate job opportunities and answers to their questions. Thus, our Employment Counselor gave an introductory presentation about the legal framework of official employment of persons of concern (refugees, asylum seekers, beneficiaries of humanitarian protection).
The National Agency for Employment described where and how residents can receive assistance in their job-hunting processes at the various centres around the country. According to their statistics, last year, from 6 applicants, 2 refugees were helped to find a job through their services and the representative encouraged participants of the meeting to seek assistance which is given for free and is accessible to anyone. The UNHCR implementing partners – Law Centre of Advocates and Ave Copiii presented key information on the legal and medical requirements in the process of official employment.
Finally, two successful stories were envisaged by the employers’ representatives – managers from two local companies who originally migrated from Syria shared their experiences on the process of starting a business.
After all presentations, a question and answer session took place, in which participants raised their questions regarding their possibilities in the employment process of beneficiaries, equivalence of foreign university degrees, as well as the socioeconomic obstacles faced within the attempts in official employment. Diplomas award followed by the Director of the centre, Mr. Djavid Paknehad, who thanked all participating partners for their collaboration and support in the frame of employment process of the persons of concerns. The discussions turned into a more unofficial atmosphere over a cup of tea, where participants could continue their conversations accordingly.
The Charity Centre for Refugees is planning to hold another range of such informative sessions/round-tables in order to maintain the awareness of the beneficiaries on the current employment opportunities, and assistance they can benefit from in the cumbersome process of integration on the local market.
