On 21st of February 2019, the Charity Centre for Refugees (CCR), within the UNHCR Budapest program and in collaboration with the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women in the Republic of Moldova (UN Women Moldova), organised the second round table for refugee, asylum-seeking and mix family women about sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) problems.

The meeting was opened by the Director of CCR, Mr. Djavid Paknehad, who welcomed and wished everyone to feel free in participation to the dialogue.

There were discussed 3 topics:

  • the violence and the discrimination on women at the job place;
  • the violence and the discrimination on women in the society;
  • the violence on women in the family.

Mrs. Ecaterina Silvestru, (the employment counsellor of CCR), as an expert, held a speech about the violence and the discrimination on women at the job place. It was new information for everybody, because Mrs. Silvestru brought some statistics, which showed that this topic is met more often in the Republic of Moldova than we can imagine.

After the presentation, Mrs. Nighina Azizov from UN Women Moldova (the Coordinator of the field regarding the Elimination of Violence against Women) and her colleagues, discussed with women from refugee community (from Armenia, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Afghanistan, Turkey, Iraq, Ukraine and Kazakhstan) – a total amount of 29 persons, including 16 women refugees and asylum seekers – about their rights and the significance of creating an equal society for women and men. Mrs. Azizov has informed about the different kind of violence and discrimination on women and the statistics regarding this field in the Republic of Moldova.

The present women community has showed interest in each discussed problem and has expressed its gratitude to the UN Women Moldova representatives, their wish being to continue the round table meetings on SGBV topics.

CCR brings its gratitude to UN Women Moldova representatives and wishes to have a further collaboration.
