On 4th of August 2021, the Charity Centre for Refugees (CCR), partner of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the Bureau for Migration and Asylum of the Republic of Moldova, coordinated a meeting of the Regional Integration Officer of the Regional Office of UNHCR for Central Europe, Mrs. Olivera Vukotic, with a group of around 20 refugees and asylum-seekers.

The purpose of the meeting was to identify the problems faced by the refugee community and to elucidate their general situation during the pandemic. Were discussed the issues regarding: integration in local labour market, employment challenges, renting of apartments, children attending schools or kindergartens, resumption of Romanian language courses at the State Pedagogical University “Ion Creanga”, discrimination, etc. The utmost issue of CCR’s beneficiaries was related to legal aspects, in particular the obligation to extend the temporary document for asylum-seekers monthly and the protracted refugee status determination procedure in courts that can last for 3 years or even more.

All present refugees and asylum-seekers received answers to their questions from the Regional Integration Officer and the Senior Protection Associate of the Regional Office of UNHCR for Central Europe, Mr. Serghei Gaina, and brought their gratitude for guidance of UNHCR Regional Office in Budapest and to CCR’s team for the support.
